Garachico becomes the hub of seafood cuisine with the public event of the 8th Encuentro de los Mares, hosted by Tenerife

The eighth edition of the conference kicks off on Sunday, May 3, with a community food festival in Garachico

The international conference Meeting of the Seas is celebrating its eighth edition, having established itself as the must-attend event for ocean conservation and marine ecosystem management. The event will kick off this coming Sunday, May 3, with an opening day open to the public: a Popular Food Fair in Garachico’s iconic Plaza de la Libertad.

Under the slogan “Blue Natural Capital”, and based on the premise that the future of the planet also depends on the sea, this pre-conference event aims to bring culinary excellence to the public. Starting at 12 noon, attendees will be able to enjoy a selection of high-end seafood cuisine at affordable prices, paired with local products and live music.

The fair will feature a prominent representation of mainland and island cuisine, creating a gastronomic bridge that highlights the biodiversity of our coasts. Among the highlights is Miguel Barrera, chef at Cal Paradís* (Castellón), who will be in Tenerife to serve his acclaimed “sea and mountain” rice dish. Joining him, local talent will be represented by Omar Páez of Bestia Marina Restaurant, who will showcase local ingredients with his grilled albacore sandwich; Rubén González, from El Rebojo Restaurant, who will present a seasonal tuna croquette with local herbs and a semi-cured dogfish tartare with tropical pineapple and spiced tomatoes; and Nahuel Núñez, from Oa Beach Club, who will offer a creative take on traditional recipes with his chickpeas featuring hints of the sea.

This experience will be complemented by a carefully curated selection of beverages provided by Bodegas Sitio and Cervezas La Virgen, all set to live music. The event is promoted by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife and its brand Tenerife Despierta Emociones, and features the active involvement of the Garachico City Council, reaffirming the island’s commitment to leadership in blue gastronomy and the protection of marine resources.
