The 8th Meeting of the seas kicks off in northern Tenerife with a seafood-themed culinary event in Garachico

Rice dishes, tuna, and seafood stews are the highlights of a community event that brings together chefs from across the peninsula and local cooks at Plaza de la Libertad.
The coastal town of Garachico, in the north of the island of Tenerife, hosted the public event marking the start of the 8th Meeting of the seas. The Plaza de la Libertad was transformed into a showcase for seafood cuisine, where local and mainland restaurants offered tastings at affordable prices, accompanied by live music.
This opening of the 8th Edition of the Meeting of the seas seeks to democratize culinary excellence with seafood, allowing the public to actively participate in a conference where marine sustainability takes center stage. With the sea off the coast of Garachico as a backdrop, the Meeting of the seas kicks off its program by highlighting the biodiversity of our coasts through the kitchen.
The fair featured a representation of both mainland and island cuisine. Among the major highlights was the presence of Miguel Barrera, chef at the restaurant Cal Paradís* (Castellón), who brought his acclaimed “surf and turf” rice dish and the traditional arrosset de Castelló to northern Tenerife.
Joining him were local talents showcasing products from Tenerife’s Atlantic coast. Omar Páez (Bestia Marina) and his commitment to the essence of the coast with his grilled albacore sandwich; Rubén González (El Rebojo) with a seasonal tuna croquette featuring local herbs and a semi-cured dogfish tartare with tropical pineapple; and Nahuel Núñez (Oa Beach Club), who surprised guests with a creative take on traditional recipes through his stewed chickpeas with a touch of the sea.
The lineup is rounded out with a selection of beverages provided by Bodegas Sitio and Cervezas Victoria, creating a complete experience for all attendees. This event, open to the public, is just the prelude to an ambitious professional conference. In the coming days, scientists, chefs, and fishermen will once again join forces to discuss the “Blue Natural Capital”. The premise is clear: the future of the planet is also at stake in the sea, and this Congress seeks to raise public awareness through the palate before delving into the technical sessions.
With this event, Garachico and Tenerife reaffirm their commitment to protecting marine ecosystems and promoting a responsible blue economy. The event is sponsored by the Tenerife Island Council, through Turismo de Tenerife and its brand Tenerife Despierta Emociones, and features the active involvement of the Garachico City Council, reaffirming the island’s commitment to leadership in blue gastronomy and the protection of marine resources.
