Deputy Head of the unit “Blue Economy Sectors, Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning”, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, European Commission. Belgium

Lorella de la Cruz Iglesias has been an official at the European Commission since 2001 and has built a strong career in EU policymaking. She holds a Law degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a Master’s degree in European Union Law. She spent 17 years at the Directorate-General for Trade, working on various aspects of EU trade policy, including serving as Deputy Head of Unit for Latin America.
In 2018, she joined the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs, where she currently serves as Deputy Head of Unit for Blue Economy Sectors, Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning. She also coordinates the unit’s aquaculture and blue bioeconomy team, driving strategic initiatives for the sustainable development of marine resources in Europe. She speaks Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.
