His work as marine biologist and researcher has focused on water around the Canary Islands and maintenance of its marine diversity.
This doctor of marine biology works as a researcher at the Spanish Oceanography Institute (IEO). In 2014 he began work in the tropical tuna department as the IEO's director for the Atlantic Ocean.
In the tuna team, his work centres on studies of the activity of the industrial tuna seine-fishing fleet and the Canary Islands' artisan fishing fleet, and studies of the biology of tropical tunny fish.
He teaches African scholarship students on programmes run by the Spanish cooperation and development agency (AECID), primarily on the taxonomy of fish.
