A popular seafood festival marks the start of the Meeting of the Seas

Now in its seventh year, the festival will have its most comprehensive and authentic opening day yet.
Taking place on Sunday 29 June, this edition will feature a day of activities for the general public on Los Cristianos beach in Arona. Highlights will include the First Swimming Meeting of the Seas, a masterclass by Ángel León on seafood sausages, a tuna carving demonstration by Tenerife chef Juan Carlos Clemente, and a food fair. The swim will be open to any swimmer who wishes to participate and will take place between the beaches of Los Cristianos and Los Tarajales. Young swimmers from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Yacht Club will participate, as will a group of women from the Ámate breast cancer association. For these women, swimming is a form of therapy in their recovery from the disease. Leading the way will be Christian Jongeneel, an ultra-distance swimmer and one of the world's leading specialists in long-distance sea swimming.
The food fair will feature local chefs, as well as chefs from the mainland. One such chef is Miguel Barrera from the restaurant Cal Paradís* in Vall d'Alba, Castellón, who will be travelling to Tenerife with his team. Ángel León will also be present, offering tastings at the popular fair in addition to his seafood workshop. They will be joined by local chefs such as Jesús Marrero from El Ancla restaurant in El Médano; Alberto Margallo from San Sebastián 57 (Santa Cruz de Tenerife); Pedro Nel (Etéreo, Santa Cruz de Tenerife); and Samuel Hernández (Zoco Restaurant, Los Cristianos).
